Painting: Ink on Paper

Scar

The Scar consists of 4 layers. Two outer layers, a middle layer and a background + leaf gold. The 2 outer layers create the shape of an incision and these layers have horizontal ink lines. The ink lines are black and pink on one side and red on the other. They are woven into the middle layer, which consists of black vertical ink lines. This is the illustration of my inner wound being healed. The tips are coated with gold leaf, as a starting complete healing of the scar, now with the new quality of insight and self-understanding.

Repair Work

Three layers of paper that has been burnt. The burn is outlined with black ink, cut out and woven back together.

When I start out by burning the paper I invite two important elements in:

Nature and 'wabi sabi'. The root of so much of my work is in in the Japanese philosophy 'wabi sabi' or the concept of finding beauty in the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. In a way this is a celebration of inconspicuous and overlooked aspects of nature.

The burnt paper would under other circumstances be considered ruined. In this connection this brokenness takes centre stage of the work and becomes the most beautiful contribution to the painting, more beautiful than anything I could have created myself without help from the fire.

It reminds us, or in the first incident myself, that our brokenness carries its own beauty.

Love Ritual

Manifesting love in this piece by weaving three layers together. One layer representing the past, one the present and one the future.

It is a piece of work that came to be out of a crush. By making this piece I got to bring something into this world that was only inside of me. With this picture this experience can now be touched and watched as a way of making my experience more real.

Mist

Cutting around the ink accidents is a slow and focussed process that adds value to the short experience of added the ink to the paper. There is nothing special you have to see in this. But the jade color is always adding the meaning of mist to me. Jade seems transparent without being so. It is as if something is hiding behind it but you can't really know.

It is hard to see in the photo but this painting is (as all my painting) made up by many layers of papers that has all been cut out. I would like you to make your own conclusions about this picture. It can mean different things for different people. For myself this picture has opened up for a new style that I am enjoying working with further.

In frustration of my difficulty to express myself clearly I made this painting as an illustration of how I feel.

I made one big splatter with my biggest brush and after I cut the splatter out in a delicate pattern.

The cut out is layered with a bright yellow background with 2 added acrylic splatters in white and pink.

DANSK magazine no. 2

Yellow, black and silver is my all time favourite color combination. It is so dramatic and wild. There is always something exciting happening in the combination. I consider this piece a strong interiors piece. It will work so great in a minimalistic place and highlight the minimalism by offering this strong contrast. The black lines are actually woven together. The background is yellow and I have added silver and a big black splash of top of it all.

I love gong baths - it's a kundalini yoga thing and it is wonderful. I dream of having my own gong and become great a giving gong baths. This is a painting to help me manifest this dream.

The background is made from a series of experiments I did during the winter. I took the ink and paper outside in minus 40C. The ink popped in the cold and created a 'chalky' look that can be found in some of my other paintings.

This is the original piece that I saw during the psychedelic trip that introduced me to the weaving technique that characterizes my expression.

The piece is put together by old work that I cut out and I added a few new pieces too so it could all be woven together and in end I added the background fill in all the holes.

I started making this piece a couple of hours after my trip ended and it was finished 2 days later. It looks almost exactly the way I saw. It was a wild experience to see this piece when it was done, as if I had drawn something from the spirit world into the materialistic world.

The reason why it is named 'Berlin' is simply because that was clearly communicated to me during the trip.
